U.N. plans for a new ‘government’ are scary.

We can only hope that world leaders will do nothing more than enjoy a pleasant bicycle ride around the charming streets of Copenhagen come December. For if they actually manage to wring out an agreement based on the current draft text of the Copenhagen climate-change treaty, the world is in for some nasty surprises. Draft text, you say? If you haven’t heard about it, that’s because none of our otherwise talkative political leaders have bothered to tell us what the drafters have already cobbled together for leaders to consider. And neither have the media.

Enter Lord Christopher Monckton. The former adviser to Margaret Thatcher gave an address at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota, earlier this month that made quite a splash. For the first time, the public heard about the 181 pages, dated Sept. 15, that comprise the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change–a rough draft of what could be signed come December.

So far there have been more than a million hits on the YouTube post of his address. It deserves millions more because Lord Monckton warns that the aim of the Copenhagen draft treaty is to set up a transnational “government” on a scale the world has never before seen.

The “scheme for the new institutional arrangement under the Convention” that starts on page 18 contains the provision for a “government.” The aim is to give a new as yet unnamed U.N. body the power to directly intervene in the financial, economic, tax and environmental affairs of all the nations that sign the Copenhagen treaty.

SECRET plans to seize more than £4billion a year from Britain and make its citizens pay taxes direct to Europe emerged last night

The leaked proposals, seen by the Daily Express, state that Britain should lose the billions of pounds in rebate that was agreed by Margaret Thatcher 25 years ago.

The plans — with a foreword by European Union Commissioner Jose Manuel Barroso — would cost every British family at least £155 a year.

They would also mean Brussels being given the power to dip straight into taxpayers’ pockets.

The proposals prompted fury last night.

Shadow Europe Minister Mark Francois vowed they would be resisted by a Tory government.

He said: “The idea of an EU tax is a non-starter.

“Britain is a major net contributor to the EU and it is important that we do not pay more than our share.

The mass rejection of the H1N1 flu shot continues in Europe, prompted by fears over the vaccine’s safety, with extremely low percentages of people saying they intend to take it.

In France, a poll published in the Dimanche Ouest-France newspaper and reported on by the country’s biggest newspaper Le Monde, reveals that just 17% of the population now intend to get vaccinated.

A rough translation of the article reads:

According to a poll published Sunday in West-France, only 17% of the French will consider getting vaccinated against influenza H1N1. In Mid-September, 55% of respondents said they would get vaccinated. Nearly one in two surveyed is clearly opposed to the vaccine.

The evolution of these figures can be explained by the reduction of anxiety felt over the virus. A month ago, 32% of respondents said they were “worried”, that figure has dropped to 16%.

The figures come in the wake of efforts on behalf of nine individuals who have filed formal charges in the French courts claiming that the H1N1 mass vaccination campaign is a deliberate attempt to poison the French population.

The drop in numbers willing to take the vaccine mirrors that in Germany where just 13% now say they are willing to take the shot, down from 51% in July.

A soldier with the Russian army in Afghanistan recounts what they believed about their mission

I’m traveling still today, but I wanted to note an amazing Op-Ed that was referenced in a book I’m reading: the Op-Ed is by Nikolai Lanine, published in The Toronto Globe and Mail in November, 2006. Lanine was drafted into the Russian Army at the age of 18 and spent several years as part of the Russian occupying force in Afghanistan. Thereafter, he moved to Canada, and in 2006, his wife’s first cousin, a medic in the Canadian Army, was killed in Afghanistan. Lanine wrote this column after attending his funeral, and recounted what he and his comrades in the Russian Army believed they were doing in Afghanistan:

I identified with the Canadian soldiers at the funeral mourning the loss of their friend. Like them, I went to Afghanistan believing in “fighting terrorism” and “liberating Afghans.” During my first mission, we were protecting refugees escaping an area that was under attack by the mujahedeen. I was deeply affected by their misery, and by the poverty and suffering of the Afghan people in general. In my mind, our presence was “helping Afghans,” particularly with educating women and children. My combat unit participated in “humanitarian aid” – accompanying doctors and delivering food, fuel, clothing, school and other supplies to Afghan villages.

It was only later that I began to wonder: Did that aid justify our aggression ?

Exactly the same quandaries arose which the U.S. confronts today, and the same justifications were concocted to dismiss them:

Billionaire globalist warns Americans against resisting new global financial system

Billionaire globalist George Soros told the Financial Times during an interview that China will supplant the United States as the leader of the new world order and that America should not resist the country’s decline as the dollar weakens, living standards drop, and a new global currency is introduced.

Asked what Obama should discuss when he visits China next month, Soros stated, “This would be the time because I think you really need to bring China into the creation of a new world order, financial world order,” adding that China was a reluctant member of the IMF who didn’t make enough of a contribution.

“I think you need a new world order that China has to be part of the process of creating it and they have to buy in, they have to own it in the same way as the United States owns…the current order,” said Soros, adding that the G20 was a move in this direction.

Soros said that there was a flight from currencies across the board, and that this is why the price of commodities, notably gold and oil, were generally rising. He also stated that an orderly decline of the dollar was “desirable” and that the entire system needed to be reconstituted towards a global currency.

Omar Khadr ‘innocent’ in death of U.S. soldier

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Kuebler, the defence attorney that has just been shown the door in the Khadr case, gave an account of these photographs at a hearing in December, 2008. The defence’s case was also lent the testimony of a ‘Soldier No. 2′ who cannot be identified by name. Both his testimony and the existence of these photographs have since been conveniently ignored – until now. Both the PMO and the typical yokel hater are going to have to recalibrate their rationalizations for keeping Khadr at Guantanamo. Congratulations to Ms. Shephard for breaking these photos (click to enlarge).

In the left photo (1), Omar Khadr is hidden under rubble from a collapsed roof. In the upper corner is an unnamed combatant killed by U.S. forces. In the right photo (2), Khadr is lying face down (body is highlighted), with his head pointing toward the combatant’s body and two bullet wounds in his back.

Guantanamo detainee Omar Khadr was buried face down under rubble, blinded by shrapnel and crippled, at the time the Pentagon alleges he threw a grenade that fatally wounded a U.S. soldier, according to classified photographs and defence documents obtained by the Star.

The pictures, which were taken following a 2002 firefight in Afghanistan and have never been made public, show the then 15-year-old Canadian covered in bricks and mud from the roof of a bombed compound.

The body of an adult fighter — the unnamed man Khadr’s lawyers contend could have thrown the grenade that killed U.S. Sgt. Christopher Speer — lies beside him.

The photographs were part of an 18-page submission presented earlier this year by Khadr’s former military defence team to an Obama administration task force investigating Guantanamo.

While the defence’s argument that it was physically impossible for Khadr to have thrown the grenade first surfaced at a Guantanamo hearing last year, the military judge would not release the photos or declassify the written submissions.

Only council-vetted “play rangers” are now allowed to monitor youngsters in two adventure areas in Watford while parents must watch from outside a perimeter fence.

The Watford Borough Council policy has been attacked as insulting and a disgrace by furious relatives who say they are being labelled as potential paedophiles.

It will further fuel concerns over a growing nanny state amid the deepening row over the Government’s new national anti-paedophile database.

That will see at least 11 million adults have to be vetted to work with children or vulnerable adults, including parents who give officials lifts to and from social or sports clubs.

Councillors in Watford claim they are only following Government guidelines and cannot allow adults to walk around playgrounds “unchecked”.

UN: Drone attacks may violate international law

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Non-representative ‘International law’ and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in their present form are completely bogus, given Article 29, subsection (3) which states ‘These rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations’, which amounts to a notwithstanding clause. However, the investigator has a point. Drones are somewhat eerily akin to buzzbombs. Despite their high tech targeting capabilities, their strikes appear to kill indiscriminately, and they are only as good as their mission intel – much of which is provided by competing tribes in the area.

The US has been warned that its use of drones to target suspected terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan may violate international law.

UN human rights investigator Philip Alston said the US should explain the legal basis for attacking individuals with the remote-controlled aircraft.

He said the CIA had to show accountability to international laws which ban arbitrary executions.

Drones have killed about 600 people in north-west Pakistan since August 2008.

Mr Alston, the UN Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial Executions, told the BBC: “My concern is that these drones, these Predators, are being operated in a framework which may well violate international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

Bomb kills dozens in Pakistan as Hillary Clinton arrives

Declan Walsh, The Guardian
October 28, 2009

The US vowed to stand “shoulder to shoulder” with Pakistan after an explosion in a crowded Peshawar market killed at least 100 people, many women and children, in the country’s worst Taliban-engineered atrocity in two years.

The suspected car bomb in Peshawar’s old city flattened shops and a mosque, scattered body parts and filled the streets with blood and burning rubble in a grim scene that one resident likened to “doomsday”.

It came hours after the US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, started a three-day visit aimed at repairing battered relations between the two countries. “We commit to standing shoulder to shoulder with the Pakistani people,” she said, echoing Tony Blair’s rhetoric in the wake of the 11 September 2001 attacks.
