The last time we heard a squeak from him was on June 3 this year.

The world’s most notorious terrorist outsmarted America by releasing a menacing message as Air Force One touched down on Saudi Arabian soil at the start of Barack Obama’s first and much vaunted Middle East tour.

Even before the new President alighted at Riyadh airport to shake hands with Prince Abdullah, Bin Laden’s words were being aired on TV, radio and the internet across every continent.

It was yet another propaganda coup for the 52-year-old Al Qaeda leader. In the audiotape delivered to the Arab news network Al Jazeera, Bin Laden said that America and her Western allies were sowing seeds of hatred in the Muslim world and deserved dire consequences.

It was the kind of rant we have heard from him before, and the response from British and U.S. intelligence services was equally predictable.

They insisted that the details on the tape, of the President’s visit and other contemporary events, proved that the mastermind of 9/11, America’s worst ever terrorist atrocity, was still alive – and that the hunt for him must go on.

Sonic weapons used in Iraq positioned at congressional townhall meetings in San Diego county

Friday, September 11th, 2009

“You’d have to be in close proximity for several minutes in order to have any damage at all. If you willingly stand in that beam for an extended situation, then that’s your choice. There’s no way a large crowd would stay.”

“Long-range acoustic devices [LRADs] for crowd control can be extremely dangerous. These are used in Iraq to control insurgents. They can cause serious and lasting harm to humans…We want to know WHY our Sheriff Dept has this weapon,” Sal Magallanez of San Diego-based Liberty One Radio said in an e-mail sent to East County Magazine, prompting a joint investigation.

The device was stationed by San Diego County Sheriff deputies at a recent town hall forum hosted by Congresswoman Susan Davis (D-San Diego) in Spring Valley and at a subsequent town hall with Congressman Darrell Issa (R-San Diego). The Davis Rally drew an estimated 1,300-1,500 people, including vocal conservative and liberal protest groups.

A public records search conducted by East County Magazine has confirmed that the device is an LRAD 500-x manufactured by San Diego-based American Technology Corporation (ATC). Capable of use as an effective loudspeaker, the LRAD also has the ability to emit a deafening tone aimed at incapacitating and dispersing a crowd without use of lethal force.

It’s very concerning,” Kevin Keenan, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union, sa. “ It is fine for the Sheriff’s Department to have new less-than-lethal weapons, but for their interactions with individuals these still-dangerous weapons need to be used only as substitutes for firearms. They can’t be used as just another tool on the tool belt. As we’ve seen with tasers and pepper spray, these types of weapons are being used to subdue people even though they pose the risk of serious physical harm.”

Canada’s $1-trillion debt baby

The Tory commitment to ‘eliminate’ Canada’s total net debt by 2021 now looks absurd

Debt is good, even for governments. [Ed. Note: How so, Mr. Corcoran? Whither principle? To whom is debt owed by governments?] But it depends on the kind of debt, what it’s used for and what the financial plan is for getting out of debt. Finance Minister Jim Flaherty’s latest revelations on the future of Ottawa’s annual deficits do not fill one with confidence that the federal government has a firm grip on the floodgates that control the level of debt in Canada, not all of which is going to be doing much good for the economy.

By 2015, said Mr. Flaherty in his surprise fiscal update on Thursday, Ottawa will have pretty well tamed the beast. He said the annual deficit in 2015 will be only be about $5-billion, “a very modest number to deal with.”

Williams says international fish deal erodes Canadian sovereignty

Friday, September 11th, 2009

The 200 mile limit on the control of national resources is an artifact of the UN’s Law of the Sea treaty, which Canada ratified in 2003. The LOST is itself a threat to national sovereignty by levying international taxes on operations in the deep seabed and creating an International Seabed Authority – effectively giving the UN control over 7/10 of the Earth’s surface. The ever pugnacious Mr. Williams is right to get his hackles up over this, but it would serve Canadians well to know the wider context behind many such stories – our elected leaders are uploading power to unelected international bodies.

Newfoundland and Labrador’s premier is calling for immediate action from Prime Minister Stephen Harper, saying Canada’s sovereignty over its fishery resources within the 200-mile coastal limit is threatened.

“Proposed amendments at the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization threaten not only to further erode the sustainability of fish stocks, but also serve to institutionalize the ability of other nations to impose their management over stocks inside of Canada’s sovereign 200-mile limit,” Premier Danny Williams said Friday.

The federal government has tabled a proposal in the House of Commons to reform its arrangement with international NAFO members regarding fisheries management in the northwest Atlantic Ocean. Williams says some of the proposed changes are unacceptable.

American dissenters urge: “Stop the 9-11 cover-up”

Friday, September 11th, 2009

The head of the largest 9/11 families group Coalition of 9/11 Families, has called for a new investigation repeatedly, and says more than 50% of his members have questions about the official story as well. So it’s a lie that the families are all lined up behind the whitewash, it’s a lie that to question the government is in some way disrespectful of their memory or unpatriotic. In fact;

We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. When the loyal opposition dies, I think the soul of America dies with it. – Edward R Murrow

American citizens are pounding the streets, still searching for answers because the official version of the 9/11events has failed to satisfy many people, and there are calls for a fresh investigation into the tragedy.

The push for another investigation into the 9/11 attacks grows larger with each passing year, particularly today when the US is commemorating the eighth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, which claimed almost three thousand lives.

U.S. President Barack Obama is calling on Americans to come together, serve their communities and strengthen the country in honour of the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

On Sept. 11, 2001, two hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, one at the Pentagon in Arlington, Va., and a fourth in a field in Shanksville, Pa. Almost 3,000 people died in the attacks, including 24 Canadians.

“Let us renew the true spirit of that day – not the human capacity for evil but the human capacity for good,” Obama said during a ceremony at the Pentagon on Friday. “Not the desire to destroy but the impulse to save and to serve and to build.”

Obama issued a proclamation on Thursday honouring those who died and urging Americans to mark the anniversary with acts of community service. Sept. 11 was declared a national day of service earlier this year.

Able Danger and DIA had advanced knowledge of 9/11

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Wayne Madsen, Online Journal
September 11, 2009

A source with close ties to the highest echelons of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) told WMR that personnel who worked for the DIA on the classified counter-terrorism data mining operation known as Able Danger were aware of the planned attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and other major facilities in Washington, DC, on 9/11 but their information was permitted, on purpose, to languish in the intelligence and law enforcement bureaucracies without any proactive measures being taken.

Able Danger began during the Clinton administration but was sidelined by order to DIA from the Bush White House, the FBI, and the CIA.

Silver hits 13-month high in Asia, tracking gold, copper

Gold GC-FT prices rose back above $1,000 an ounce in Europe on Friday as the dollar index tumbled to one-year lows, fuelling interest in gold as an alternative asset.

Traders are watching to see if gold can sustain its rise back above $1,000 and have expressed concern the metal’s climb to 18-month highs this week was overdone amid weakness in physical demand and rising scrap sales.

Silver hit a 13-month high of $16.93 an ounce, supported by rising gold and copper prices. Spot gold was bid at $1,001.05 an ounce at 1117 GMT against $995.50 late in New York on Thursday, having earlier touched a high of $1,002.70.
